Kim Al,

It will not be as easy to transfer your domain. We have heard horror stories about how the domain been taken hostage by the hosting company. The control panel at a hosting company is not made to manage domains, thus technically it will be hard for you to manage domains. In addition, some companies even register domains under their name instead of under your name thus making it impossible for you to claim the domain later on or move to a different hosting service.

If you are thinking about Justhost vs Bluehost, I suggest you go with Bluehost because of the more established Bluehost name and the savings you get from Justhost is too small to justify choosing it.

Hi. I'm thinking of self-hosting my WP blog and trying to choose between Bluehost and Justhost. My main issue is with the free domain registration thing. As you have helpfully addressed in this article, including your review of Bluehost and Justhost, I am correct to have reservations about registering my domain with them for free. I would just like to know what problems I may actually encounter if I decide to migrate to a different host in the future. Why would the free domain registration be such a problem if I'm going to own the domain anyway? Won't I be able to transfer to a different registrar just as easily as if I had paid for the initial registration? Thank you for your time. I would very much appreciate a response! :)
