What is the best use of the free domain for life?

Although it nice to have such a good domain web hosting deal with free domain name registration included, we strongly suggest that you do not use the free-domain-name-for-life or free-domain-forever offer to do your main or important web domain registration. Use a different domain names registration provider instead and have two different companies as your hosting provider and your domain registrar. This can avoid domain transfer conflict and problem in the future. Most people may want to move to a different hosting company when the needs arises. There are many low cost domain registration services you can use nowadays.

So what to do with the free domain forever option that is available? It will go wasted if not used!
Answer: You can use it to register a backup domain name or signup a domain name with different TLD variation, i.e .NET, .ORG etc instead of the .COM version. If you would like to have all the TLD variations registered, try one of those bulk domain registration companies as they provide good support to manage all your domains under one control panel.

Don’t forget to read some of the web hosting reviews before you decide. Here are some recommended ones: Fatcow review, Pronet Hosting review, Stablehost review, Hostgator review and Inmotion Hosting review. Justhost is another popular web hosting company offering free-domain-forever although they have more recent complaints as compared to the above suggested hosts.

Hi. I’m thinking of self-hosting my WP blog and trying to choose between Bluehost and Justhost. My main issue is with the free domain registration thing. As you have helpfully addressed in this article, including your review of Bluehost and Justhost, I am correct to have reservations about registering my domain with them for free. I would just like to know what problems I may actually encounter if I decide to migrate to a different host in the future. Why would the free domain registration be such a problem if I’m going to own the domain anyway? Won’t I be able to transfer to a different registrar just as easily as if I had paid for the initial registration? Thank you for your time. I would very much appreciate a response! :)

      Kim Al,

It will not be as easy to transfer your domain. We have heard horror stories about how the domain been taken hostage by the hosting company. The control panel at a hosting company is not made to manage domains, thus technically it will be hard for you to manage domains. In addition, some companies even register domains under their name instead of under your name thus making it impossible for you to claim the domain later on or move to a different hosting service.

If you are thinking about Justhost vs Bluehost, I suggest you go with Bluehost because of the more established Bluehost name and the savings you get from Justhost is too small to justify choosing it.
